TWO of rugby league's hardest forwards - Fred Jones and Peter Kelly - were guest speakers at the Wollongong-University Bulls sport luncheon at the Steelers Club last month.

The function was an opportunity to raise awareness about autism and raise funds for that important cause through auctions and raffles.

While Jones and Kelly were best known as rugged, uncompromising characters on the field, they provided plenty of laughs and fun in their talks.

Kelly, the former Canterbury-Bankstown premiership winning front rower in the 1980s and NSW State of Origin prop, has some great footy stories, especially about his adventures in France.

Jones, the teak-tough hooker who led Manly-Warringah to their first premiership in 1972 and represented Australia, entertained the crowd by recalling many of the exploits that happened in his long career with the Sea Eagles.

Bulls treasurer Nicky O'Brien said there were some great auction items and raffles.
