WRITER and social commentator Mia Freedman is expected to attract plenty of interest in Wollongong when she visits in May.Ms Freedman will be the special guest speaker for the Illawarra Business Women's Conference at Villa D'oro Function Centre on May 27.RDA Illawarra chief executive Natalie Burroughs said the conference would give women an opportunity to be inspired and motivated. Tickets would be on sale soon, she said.Other speakers at the conference will include Miranda Bond, of Inika Cosmetics, Professor Julie Steele, of University of Wollongong's Biomechanics Research Laboratory, and Ingrid Poulson, of Steadfast Training.Mrs Burroughs said the conference, supported by Industry and Investment NSW, would celebrate the success and achievements of women.Ms Freedman began her career doing work experience at Cleo magazine at 18 years of age. Five years later, she was appointed editor of Cosmopolitan.She was voted by her peers as Editor of the Year in 2000 and is a champion of the cause of positive body image.She has also been involved in many ground-breaking industry initiatives such as the use of non-models up to size 16 in the magazine.
